Waterfall Adventure - Hike In Paddle Out

Join us for a truly unique and exotic Costa Rican adventure that combines hiking, kayaking, animal viewing, a 35 foot, lush, tropical waterfall with a swimming hole below it, and a leisurely paddle through the primary rain forest of the Rio Pozo Azul Waterfall Reserve!!

We’ll start the trip at the trail head, where you’ll be greeted by one of our expert guides / instructors.  We’ll take a downhill walk for 20-30 minutes through the primary rainforest of the Rio Pozo Azul Waterfall Reserve, stopping  along the way to take in the beauty and diversity of the forest.  We commonly see monkeys, rare birds, as well as an abundance of exotic vegetation and insect life.  Our guide will be pointing things out along the way.  Then Behold!!  We arrive to the sound of the thunderous Pozo Azul Waterfall!!  It is truly majestic; a perfect 35 foot drop into a huge, blue pool of water (hence the name; Pozo Azul).  Now we'll head down to the pool’s edge and put on our kayaking gear.  We’ll each be paddling a single, inflatable kayak (or as we affectionately call them; Duckies!).  We’ll practice and learn the basics of white water paddling techniques, safety protocols and best of all, we’ll be awarded the amazing opportunity to practice all these in the pool beneath the waterfall.  There will be time to swim, and take photos beneath the falls.  Now let’s go!!!  We’ll head down river in a single filed line (duck line), through the exciting yet mild rapids of the Pozo Azul River.  Prepare to be blown away by the rapids, the long pools, and the lush rainforest all around us.  We’ll paddle approximately 45 minutes to the confluence of the Mighty Sarapiquí River.

Then look out!  We will go through 2 consecutive class 2+ rapids!…to end our trip with a shot of adrenaline.

All in all, the trip takes 2.5 hrs.  Kids 14 and up are welcome and able to paddle their own boats.  We accept children 8ys – 13yrs, who would paddle in a double kayak with our instructor.
